See Marley finished up (and on) tomorrow

Only three days of the Indiegogo and 20% funding remain! I’m hopeful we’ll get a spike of pledges before it ends, but if not, I want to outline what’s going to happen.

Firstly, as promised on the IGG page, we’re going to make Carnal Souls regardless. Indiegogo’s ‘Flexible Funding’ means we don’t have to reach the goal to receive that money. It will mean that it’s likely things will take a bit longer if we don’t reach that goal – this is unavoidable, as it means that with our current plans and projections, the money will run out before it’s done, meaning we’ll be working on our free time to get it to first release.

To mitigate this, I’ll be setting up a Patreon so that, as we show what we’re doing and our progress, we can continue to generate some funds to keep development going full-time. However, it is obviously better to have that money at the start so it can be planned around and allocated, so to help with this I’m asking all of you to hit those share buttons at the bottom, retweet, reblog, all that stuff, in the last few days of the campaign. Spread the word!

Booster will be streaming for us again tomorrow Tuesday at the usual time (midnight GMT) and the usual place (here), where you can see Marley here get all finished and shiny and probably extremely sticky.

    For what it’s worth, I’ll make a solid investment once a solid product has been released. But between the political BS with Gedan and the fact that this is essentially an early access game made by people I have no experience with, I’m going to be waiting until I’m certain of delivery.

    when you do open up a patreon, try not to have a 1 dollar option, I’ve seen a lot of talented people not get the funding they deserve simply for trying to be “polite”

    that may sound harsh but a lot of people would happily take advantage and just pledge a dollar just to see updates and artwork while you really don’t get anything out of it. or maybe i’m just being grumpy ATM, either way I’ll be pledging πŸ™‚

    This statement has me somewhat nervous about the future of the game. What if the money does run out and you guys get bored of the game or cant spend any time on it and just stop working on it? Will we be left with just a game that’s halfway finished and abandoned? I really dont want to see this happen and I’ve got this terrible feeling in my gut that it might.

      I’ve been wanting to make this happen for about two years. Not just that, but I’m not in the habit of giving up on things I’ve been paid to do. Sometimes I get bored of commissions, I don’t just give up on them, haha. I have a whole stack of reasons to make Carnal Souls, and no reasons not to.

        Do you think a daily post would be doable while you guys are actively making the game? Forgive me if this is somewhere on the indigogo page, but I don’t know what kind of effort will be put towards this game (full time, part time, when you feel like it, etc.).

        The Parser and Dictator showcase was pretty cool. If there was more such content planned for the future, it would go a long way in boosting my confidence of the game being completed. Art/code streams are all well and good, but I don’t feel I have a good sense of the progress your making with them alone. Maybe a outline of where we are now and where we hope to be by the end of your first quarter?

        I hope I don’t come off as abrasive. I truly want you to succeed, but I hope you’ll agree that this fledgling community can be more than a means to bankroll your ideas. I know letting us down is the last thing you want, so perhaps we can help by holding you to promises more specific than a general release date.

        You’ve done a hell of a good job so far, Benji. The IGG campaign comes off as really polished and you’ve handled yourself professionally even through the project’s first few birthing pains. I for one, am glad to be along for the ride <3

          I would be fine with just weekly posts as daily updates are surprisingly more disruptive to a person working on something than you’d expect. A week also allows for actual progress to be made and is typically just long enough for a sense of accomplishment.

      I wish, haha. The Indiegogo ends on the 31st. We’re estimating between 6 to 8 months from the end of the campaign until the initial release.

    Pledged because I saw Fen freak out about that whole Gedan business. I am not really familiar with them, but I liked and agreed with your explanations.

    A quick question as well. You have shown some pretty good art already. Is it actually going to be visible in the game as well? In TiTS, there are busts, but as far as I know, no full pictures. I know that full pictures of the busts are available, but I dont know if you can see them in-game.

    Hey, i was hoping to donate 40 dollars to the kickstarter, but i dont know if i’d be able to.
    would there be anyway to send stuff after it ends, and could you still get said rewards?
    also what does it mean by (X) status for development and (x) months after release? it isnt permanent?
